If It Was Good Enough for Bourdain...
One of the best parts of visiting Lisbon was experiencing the Fado restaurants... truly holes in the wall that served drinks and beer and served an assortment of local cuisine. And A Tasca do Chico did not disappoint.
Calling these spots holes in the wall is not meant as an insult. Truly, it's meant to demonstrate the authenticity of the restaurant. We loved it. From the futbol banners hanging from the ceiling, to the tables that were too close to be comfortable yet fun to sit at, to the rotating group of Fado singers... great all around.
We came to this joint because we saw the Anthony Bourdain episode in which he visited. And if it's good enough for him... well, he was right. The atmosphere was cool, the music was engaging, and we loved the local beer. Truly a great time had by all.
One thing to note for your visit... although Fado bars/restaurants look kind of dive-like, they still expect you to respect the music and the musicians. Once the music starts, stop the talking and take it in. They will appreciate it and you will walk way with a great cultural experience.
